ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN OF THE NEW TEMPLE

The Thousand Buddha Temple was established in 2016 on a 4.1-acre site at 153 Wolfetrail Road and a 1.4-acre site at 149 Wolfetrail Road, Greensboro, North Carolina. These two sites, totaling over 5.5 acres in the AG (Agricultural) District, are about a 10-minute drive from the center of Greensboro. On the 4.1-acre site is a refurbished 3,300 sq. ft. house that serves as a temporary main hall for chanting, weekly meditation classes, and large ceremonies. The temple is a place for study, meditation and practice. Our mission is to actualize Buddha’s teachings to bring immediate and long-term happiness to our lives.

The new temple will be graced by 1,000 statues of Shakyamuni Buddha that represent all the Buddhas that will appear in this cosmic eon. 108 of these statues currently are on display at the temporary temple. The building of this new and unique temple is supported by voluntary financial donations, as well as gifts of time, talent and energy. To reduce construction costs, the existing temporary temple structure will be augmented with a large main hall, lecture halls, offices, dining rooms, kitchens and essential amenities. The total area of the existing structure and the addition is 7,500 sq. ft. Our architects and model design engineers have developed a 3D Architectural Model to provide an overall and comprehensive view of the new temple.

In front of the new temple is a statue of Avalokitesvara, Bodhisattva of Compassion, and the meditation path around the temple is designed in a heart shape to remind us to treat all sentient beings with love and compassion.

The back of the temple, the current temporary temple, overlooking a large lake will be renovated to become a residence for monks and nuns including a Buddha worship room, living room, dining room, kitchen, bedrooms, and essential amenities.

The second floor behind the main hall will be divided into small guest rooms that will be available for people to stay during long retreats.
